The Boston Red Sox captured their first World Series title in 1903 and went on a winning streak to take three more championship titles in 1912, 1915 and 1916. In 1918, the Boston Red Sox won their fifth World Series title, but that was all the glory they would muster for the next eight and a half decades. The courageous Sox did attempt a comeback of sorts in 1946, when they made it to the World Series, but they were defeated by the St. Louis Cardinals and that was that. The fifties and sixties were a wash-out for the sox and it wasn’t until 1975 that the Sox won the pennant again. They also won the 1986 World Series, took three divisional championships, and played as contenders in four wild-card competitions. The Sox beat the Yankees in 2004 in the American League Series; and the team went on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals to regain their crown as the World Champions of Baseball. 2005 was a return to the glory days when the Sox won the World Series again in 2005 – though they could not repeat history in 2006; having to settle for the Wild Card with a final record of 95-67.
